Dr. Al-Saghir is the Director of First Coast Cardiovascular Institute (FCCI) Clay County Operations. He is an interventional cardiologist, which means he treats heart and blood vessel problems with catheter-based procedures, using thin tubes placed through a blood vessel instead of open surgery.

He trained in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, including neurovascular and carotid interventions, PFO closures and atrial septal defects. He is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine. He also speaks Arabic.

How he thinks about heart care
Dr. Al-Saghir describes interventional cardiology as more than fixing a blockage and moving on. In his words, it starts with prevention and includes medicine as well as procedures. That is good news for patients, because many heart and vessel problems can be managed with lifestyle changes and medication before anything else is needed.
He came to medicine after first working as an engineer, and he says the human element is the part he enjoys most. Outside the office he loves the outdoors: fishing, hiking, camping, boating, bike riding and basketball.
For patients, that means your visit will usually start with a conversation, not a procedure. Expect questions about your symptoms, your family history and your daily routine, then a clear plan you can follow at home. Questions about any of this?
